Mayweather vs. Cotto

On Saturday May 5th taking place in Vegas at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino will be the must see fight as Floyd Mayweather will face Miguel Cotto for the WBA Light Middleweight Championship title. Folks this may be 2012’s most anticipated fight as Mayweather stands with an undefeated record (42-0) and his opponent, Cotto, with merely two losses (37-2). Cotto is the reigning WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion and a four-time world champion in three weight divisions; the Puerto Rican Boxer has gone up against renowned fighters like Margarito and Pacquiao. “Undefeated” pretty much sums up Mayweather’s boxing career to date; the American boxer is a five-division world champion, with many other winnings to his name including the current WBC Welterweight Champion. Now, we are no professional boxing analysts, but it is safe to say there is potentially a good challenge here, wouldn’t you concur? What we are sure of, is that the weekend of the fight will be a great time to plan your visit to Vegas as there will be many after parties. Who are we kidding it’s Vegas, there are festivities happening 24/7! Be sure to get your tickets today!

Cinco de Mayo in Vegas!

One of the hottest fiestas in the world is going down this weekend in Vegas. Is it in honor of Cinco de Mayo or just a coincidence that this upcoming weekend is jammed packed with popular events? Vegas is known for some of the best daytime and nightlife parties, but when you add all of the tradition and hype that goes along with Cinco de Mayo, you have one of the best weekends that we have yet to see this year. Cinco de Mayo aka May 5th, will offer up some tantalizingly spicy menus in honor of the special day at local Las Vegas restaurants. We recommend checking out Michoacan which is a staple in Las Vegas Mexican food, Cabo Wabo Cantina for “el último” party alongside the Las Vegas Strip or Tacos and Tequila for the largest selection of Tequilas in Vegas. Cinco de Mayo would not be the same without stopping by a Vegas bar for a pitcher of Corona, a glass of Sangria, a shot of Tequila or Patron; we recommend checking out these local favorites. Now as far as the ultimate in Cinco de Mayo parties, you know no one does it like Vegas. Check out our events calendar for this weekend’s happenings as we are sure you will find “el perfecto” party!

Viva Elvis Review

Cirque du Soleil continues to impress in their one of a kind circus style entertainment in presenting Viva Elvis at Elvis Theater, Aria Hotel and Casino. In a tribute to the late King of Rock n Roll, Elvis Presley, Cirque offers a celebration of the man, his life and legacy. The show, which is approximately 90 minutes takes the audience on a journey through Elvis’ life. The performers are phenomenal in their acrobatic stunts, singing and dancing. The show opens up in a setting replicated after a typical Elvis concert with groupies and fans going wild over the anticipation of “The King” hitting the stage and bouncers doing everything that they can to control the crowd. The excitement of the crowd makes the audience feel as though they are a part of the concert experience as they begin to chant for Elvis. Elvis’ greatest hits are played throughout the show, with the opener being a signature staple in Rock n Roll history, “Blue Suede Shoes.” The audience gasps in awe and amazement when the giant blue suede shoe prop is rolled onto the stage and then used as an apparatus for the choreographed acrobatic performance. After the next couple of scenes, it is even more astonishing when an oversized guitar drops from the ceiling and dangles over the stage with a classic night under the stars setting to one of Elvis’ classic hits “One Night With You.” The next scene offers a reflection of the man himself through a still photo montage of Elvis throughout his life with pictures of his childhood and adult life. The church which was a focal point in the Elvis’ life was prominent in many of his greatest musical works. As such, it was only befitting to set a scene around the church to a live performance of “Saved” one of Elvis’ most well known gospel hits . As the show progresses, the stage transforms to a comic book setting inclusive of huge trampolines where acrobats dressed in superhero attire perform daring stunts to “Gotta Lotta Lovin.” The height of the jumps that the acrobats are able to sustain offers up a truly stunning performance. Elvis’ service to this country, enlisting in the Army and being drafted was one of the greatest news stories of his life. Clips from Elvis’ time in the military are displayed through a medley of photos and a duet performed to “Love Me Tender.” Perhaps one of the highlights of the show for us was the boot camp scene where a marching band performed to “Return To Sender;” the marching band, dancers and acrobats were so in sync and the rhythm of the entire performance was simply stunning. The climax of the show is the jail house set which transports the audience through Elvis’ film career for which he is most noted for his performance in “Jailhouse Rock.” This scene showcases some of the best dance and acrobatics in the show, not to mention it was to the tunes of one of Elvis’ most well known songs “Jailhouse Rock.” Other high points in the show included an illustration of Elvis’ emotional side through photos of his most romantic scenes in film and home movies of him and Priscilla. The show continues to move on through scenes which present the sexy and sensual side of Elvis playing such hits as “It’s Now Or Never” and “Can’t Help Falling In Love;” but the big finish in showcasing Elvis’ romantic side comes with a performance of “Love Me” and “Don’t” where two huge engagement rings in the exact image of Elvis’ and Priscilla’s drop from the ceiling over the stage and two couples connect in an extremely physical performance of tumbling and tossing through the ring hoops. As the show nears the finale, there is a performance of “Viva Las Vegas” complete with showgirls and dancers in costume of Elvis’ signature jumpsuit which is indicative of the time that he spent in Las Vegas. The show wraps up with the entire cast taking the stage to “Hound Dog” which is Elvis’ musical masterpiece and played a huge role in his rise to fame. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the show and highly recommend Viva Elvis for your next visit to Las Vegas. Even if you are not a fan of Elvis you will appreciate the message behind his music and be amazed at the mark he left in the world through the life that he lived.

Menopause The Musical® (Review)

The ladies at VegasPlayDate.com recently attended Menopause The Musical® at Luxor Hotel and Casino. It was a girls’ night out in honor of our Chief Communications Officer’s b-day. We ranged in age from 24 to 61 and believe us we laughed until we cried. It was a wonderful show, one that some of us had seen before but did not mind going back a second time to see. The entire cast is stellar. We had 3rd row center seats, truly the best in the house; thank you to Neal Gardner of GFOUR Productions for making that happen. The show lasted approximately 90 minutes and was entertaining from beginning to end. Below is our review…

Menopause The Musical® is a brilliant illustration in the celebration of womanhood. The show is set in Bloomingdale’s, New York City where four women from different walks of life find themselves supporting one another as they cope with the changes that have been suddenly thrust upon them. “The Change” aka “Menopause” is the focal point of the story line and offers up quirky humor coupled with high energy and a solid performance by the cast. Stars Lisa Mack (Professional Woman), Paige O’Hara (Soap Star), Laura Lee O’Connell (Earth Mother) and Annette Houlihan Verdolino (Iowa Housewife) are wonderfully entertaining through short stories, song and dance. The musical soundtrack is made up of old school jams slightly reworded to evoke humor and drive home the point of the scene. We found ourselves rocking and clapping to legendary tunes such as “My Guy” or as the women put it, “My Thighs”, “Chain of Fools”, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, “Heatwave” and “New Attitude”. Not to mention Lisa Mack puts on a spectacular tribute to Tina Turner for “What’s Love Got To Do With It”. As the women journey through the various floors in Bloomingdale’s they find themselves having reflections upon events in their lives which has lead up to “The Change”. Each floor offers the setting for a scene and has a story of its own. From scene to scene the women question fashion choices, beauty and relationships but are able to draw strength from one another in coping with these changes. Comedy is used to present challenges the women face in growing older and learning to accept who they have become. Whether you have been through the hot flashes, night sweats, decreased sex drive, overactive sex drive or memory loss, or just know someone who has, you will definitely relate to the women and their stories. Menopause The Musical® should be a top choice for your next night out on the town, believe us, you will not be disappointed. To purchase tickets please click here, enjoy!

And for the love of Ray J, we suggest you do the same. The party kicks off at 10pm; call (702)994-9598 for guest list options.
